ABOUT
PAINTING
Following an established career as a textile stylist and craftsperson, my artistic direction changed in 2007 when I volunteered for a mural painting project. The resultant panels, featuring expansive garden scenes, now hang in the Dementia Care Unit of the Capilano Care Center in West Vancouver … and I continued to focus on the world of flowers, albeit on a smaller scale. But there was a piece of myself missing in my painting.
NOSTALGIA
Memories of a childhood puzzle catapulted me into painting Faceted Florals. The puzzle was a European toy consisting of wooden geometric shapes and sheets of suggested quilt block layouts.

FACETED FLORALS
I begin with a photo reference and create additional copies, each with a different colour balance. The copies are treated as separate “fabrics” that are cut and pieced on paper in a quilt block layout that becomes the basis of my painting.
I find this Faceted Floral painting process endlessly engaging, and it weaves together the many threads of my creative journey.
